Garden Ornaments: 727 to 6,370 monthly organic visits in 7 months

An established UK e-commerce site stuck in a multi-quarter traffic trough. We ran the GeoLinks playbook on our own portfolio site and lifted organic traffic 776% without adding net referring domains. Here is exactly what changed.

The situation

Stuck in a multi-quarter trough

Garden Ornaments is an established UK e-commerce site in our own portfolio. Going into autumn 2025, organic traffic had been sliding for two quarters and bottomed at 727 monthly visits in October 2025. The site had decent backlink history (520+ referring domains) but page-level content was thin, AI search citations were near zero, and category pages were losing ground to newer, content-rich competitors.

The brief was to apply our own GeoLinks method to recover the trough without buying more links. We treated it as a working proof: if the playbook moves an established site we own, it works on a paying client too.

The approach

Content first, on-page second, links third

01. Citable content built around real queries

We mapped the actual queries people ask AI assistants about garden ornaments, built F-S-A structured articles around each one, and shipped supporting blog posts. New posts like "Best bird baths UK 2026" and "Modern garden sculptures: 12 striking ideas" went live with FAQ schema and proper internal linking back to commercial pages.

02. Gold Standard page rebuild on the money pages

We rewrote the homepage, Stone Garden Ornaments, Contemporary, Large, Dragon, and Sundials category pages to the Gold Standard spec: 50 to 75 word GEO summary above the fold, named installer voice, visual info bar, footer with comparison table and 5 to 7 FAQ entries with JSON-LD. Every page passes the six March 2026 Core Update gates.

03. Internal linking and topical cluster coherence

Each new article links into the relevant category pillar with the target keyword as the anchor. Each category page links back out to 3 to 5 supporting articles. The cluster reads as one connected topic, not a pile of unrelated pages.

04. No new links bought

Net referring domains actually fell slightly across the period, from 542 in October 2025 to 466 in May 2026. The whole lift is from content and on-page work, not link buying. That is the point: the right content on the right pages converts the authority you already have.

What this proves

The bottleneck is rarely backlinks

Most agencies will sell you more links when traffic stalls. The data here says otherwise: net referring domains fell over the period and organic traffic still went up 776%. The actual bottleneck was page-level content that AI engines and Google could not extract clean answers from.

This is why GeoLinks ships content first. Articles built around real questions, with the F-S-A structure, FAQ schema, and named author signals AI models look for. Then links amplify pages that are already worth citing. The reverse order (links pointing at thin pages) is what most agencies do, and it is why their clients plateau.

Method

Content Engine + Gold Standard rewrites

Equivalent client deliverable: Content Engine 8 (8 articles per month) plus Liftoff-style page rebuilds on the top six commercial URLs. Approx. £4,800 in published GeoLinks packages.
